6 pounds of pot seized in Walla Walla

Six pounds of marijuana were seized from a convicted felon with a medical marijuana card after he was arrested in a Walla Walla SWAT raid, police said.

Terry L. Knapp, 58, was booked into the Walla Walla County jail after police detectives and the Emergency Services Unit SWAT team searched his home at 712 Whitman around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

During the search, processed marijuana with a street value of almost $30,000 was found, said Officer Tim Bennett.

Knapp has a medical marijuana permit that allows him to legally possess no more than 1 1/2 pounds of harvested marijuana, Bennett said.

More than $1,500 in cash also was seized.

Investigators also found 15 small marijuana plants, which Knapp was allowed to have in accordance with his medical marijuana permit, Bennett said.

The City Drug Unit began investigating Knapp about two months ago, after receiving a tip that he was dealing drugs, Bennett said.

A confidential informant was used to make several large marijuana purchases during the past several weeks, Bennett said.

Knapp has an extensive criminal history in the Walla Walla area, Bennett said.

Knapp was jailed on suspicion of three counts of delivering marijuana, delivering marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
