Medical marijuana enforcement guidance sought in Flathead

Flathead authorities say they won’t be able to properly enforce the use and misuse of medical marijuana until the legislature makes a decision on their reform efforts.

Kalispell authorities say a lack of regulation from the state level has made it very difficult for them to enforce marijuana use in the Flathead Valley.

They say that keeping track of who is using it legally and who is not is a daily struggle, because so many people have their cards, and so many more claim to have them.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says it’s even hard for law enforcement to confirm actual cardholders.

“Honestly, we oftentimes ignore use of marijuana rather than attempt to work our way through a very cumbersome and not very effective system,” he explained.

Curry added that the gray areas in the current law also makes it difficult for the cardholders who are using it legally.
